Rock on, Santa!

The 2019 Christmas season marks the 27th year WCSF has hosted The Spirit of Christmas programming. The programming began on Thanksgiving day and runs daily, non-stop 24 hours until noon on January 2nd

The programming was started in 1993 by local radio celebrity and former University of St Francis adjunct professor, Bob Zak as a gift from the university to the local community. The programming is now produced by Don Burke. The Spirit of Christmas radio programmiing on WCSF-FM 88.7

“At the end of the fall semester, the radio station would shut down for a few weeks because students were finished with their coursework for that semester,” said Burke. “Bob wanted to experiment with a holiday format that ran from December 1st through December 26th and that continuously played a variety of Christmas songs. Within two days of the original launch, the station’s phones were constantly receiving calls about how much people loved the station and to make song requests.”

The Spirit of Christmas programming airs over 4,000 different Christmas songs, in addition to holiday specials and the popular radio serial The Cinnamon Bear.  The programming is also a major fundraiser for the student run radio station WCSF by the generous underwriting from local businesses.

Whether or not you live in the local broadcast area, you can always tune into WCSF’s commercial free programming of The Spirit of Christmas at
