University of St. Francis graduates won 4 Emmys!

Last Saturday night, four of my former University of St. Francis video students won Emmys at the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Chicago/Midwest Chapter event!

Patrick Keating and Kristin Hoogenboom won in the Spot News category for TV New Gathering: a story about the Ottawa Tornado.  This was Pat’s second Emmy in two years.

Brendan and Jessica Walsh won in the Category of Outstanding Achievement for Documentary Programs for Making Waves: Battle for the Great Lakes, a story about invasive species in the Great Lakes.

I am so proud of my former Communication students.  They excel in their profession and are making a difference in the world.  They adhere to the “Public Principle” that the public has a right to know.  And, I am confident that they will to continue to serve the public interest while telling it like it is.

This type of recognition shows what hard work, dedication, attention to detail, accuracy and the ability to tell a dramatic story will do.  Persistence and high quality work always pays off whether one receives an award or not.  What drives media professionals like ours is producing an important, accurate story that serves the general public.

Congratulations to my former students!
